We are in the process of testing a new email notification system. Our forum email service has been down for some time. This system allows you to send messages to other forum members, sends an email when a post you're following changes, and other notices that are sent via email. Hopefully this new system will continue to work properly. So if you're interested in a particular post, you can now follow it and be notified when it changes or a new message is posted. That's rather nice, instead of having to check every few days to see if something new has been added. There is also another upgrade to the forum version. Only minor changes, but it's always best to get these changes made. We'll get to that as soon as possible. You can hide this announcement now that you've read it by clicking on the little "X" in the upper right corner of the announcement window. Thanks for being a member. We appreciate your participation.

Re: Coming to a Badland Forum Near You!

The F-23 is definitely my favorite 2-stroke. I had one on an Airbike for about 6 months and it was very well behaved. I always suspected that it wasn't really 50 HP, but the Airbike was 350 lbs even after I knocked 25 lbs off so that probably had something to do with it. Looking at it, you'd never s...

Re: Coming to a Badland Forum Near You!

There have been plenty of discussions about the chute limit, so we probably don't want to go too far into the weeds here. The rule says: (i) Up to 24 pounds of weight associated with the parachute system may be excluded by the FAA without requiring a separate weighing of the system components. To me...

Another weight penalty is going to be the prop. Polinis use those featherweight e-props, and I don't know if there's a similar option for the F-23.

I beg you to put that fuselage on some accurate scales before you do anything else with it. Your clamp should work great. If anyone wants to do this with off the shelf items, look for "split-nut" connectors. That's what I've always used, though the trick is probably finding them small enough. You're local hardware store will have larger sizes for coupling ground wires and such.

I'd worry way more about the wood than the aluminum. I'll leave the 6061 aluminum bare to save weight, and it will last a lot longer than I will. Steel needs to be protected, and powder coat rules. Interesting project. I'll be following your development and testing. Kitfox used a leading edge strip that gave a better shape compared to the large front spar tube. I wonder how much effect that would have? It would of course add weight, which is the enemy of Part 103.
