We are in the process of testing a new email notification system. Our forum email service has been down for some time. This system allows you to send messages to other forum members, sends an email when a post you're following changes, and other notices that are sent via email. Hopefully this new system will continue to work properly. So if you're interested in a particular post, you can now follow it and be notified when it changes or a new message is posted. That's rather nice, instead of having to check every few days to see if something new has been added. There is also another upgrade to the forum version. Only minor changes, but it's always best to get these changes made. We'll get to that as soon as possible. You can hide this announcement now that you've read it by clicking on the little "X" in the upper right corner of the announcement window. Thanks for being a member. We appreciate your participation.

H. Stab and Flying Wires

Post by ksatter26 »

Mounted and leveled the horizontal stabilizer. I was able to get good measurements for the lengths of the 4 upper and 4 lower flying wires and the angle to which the wire tangs need to be bent (40 degrees seems to be proper for all 8 locations).

I have access to 3/16" 6061Tg aluminum rod so I decided to make my own flying wire rods by threading the ends (left and right hand) and adding left and right hand clevis forks. These forks are very expensive. I thought seriously of making my own from 3/8" hexagonal 6061Tg rod stock (only about $9 locally), but making all 16 (8 left and 8 right hand) would be very time consuming, so I bit the bullet and ordered the clevis ends, jam nuts, and pins from Univair ... considerably cheaper than Aircraft Spruce.

Using the hand die tool to cut the threads into the rod stock is also time consuming, but I'm getting better at it.
