Here's the method/tool I came up with to flatten the ends of the jury-strut arms.
(1) bent an L-angle shape of scrap aluminum sheet and cut a 0.5" notch to fit the strut rods. I mounted this on a piece of scrap wood as a positioning support for the rod.
(2) I cut a slot into another piece of scrap wood approximately 0.25" wide to fit the crimped end of a strut. I made the depth of the slot to match the notch in the L-angle support, verifying this with a small level along the strut.
(3) I used my drill-press vise to make the crimp, using pieces of scrap aluminum L-angle in the jaws so that the ends of the strut would not be marred by the vice jaws.
(4) I first crimped one end of each piece in my bench-vice pretty much as Chris shows in the build manual.
(5) Then, in turn, the open-end of each strut member was filled with a small amount of Locktite epoxy; fitted into the tool as pictured. Before using the vice to crimp the end, I verified that the tube was straight in the jig using the small carpenter's level.
(6) I finished off the struts by drilling each end for the AN3 mounting bolts and sent the struts off to be powder coated.

We are in the process of testing a new email notification system. Our forum email service has been down for some time. This system allows you to send messages to other forum members, sends an email when a post you're following changes, and other notices that are sent via email. Hopefully this new system will continue to work properly. So if you're interested in a particular post, you can now follow it and be notified when it changes or a new message is posted. That's rather nice, instead of having to check every few days to see if something new has been added. There is also another upgrade to the forum version. Only minor changes, but it's always best to get these changes made. We'll get to that as soon as possible. You can hide this announcement now that you've read it by clicking on the little "X" in the upper right corner of the announcement window. Thanks for being a member. We appreciate your participation.
